International arbitration is generally the preferred method of resolving both high-value cross-border commercial disputes and those between states and their investors. It is particularly important in an international context to help resolve cross-border disputes. As a practice area, it offers a range of opportunities, whether as a party representative or arbitrator and as a subject for study, it gives exposure to all legal traditions, fascinating and challenging aspects of private law, and an overarching near-global framework governed by international treaty.
Parties choose arbitration to obtain a final and binding resolution of their dispute. It is the arbitrator's role to resolve the dispute by deciding all disputed issues and recording their decision in a document called an arbitral award. This practice-based subject will focus on arbitral award in international commercial arbitration. This subject will equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills in writing effective arbitral awards in the context of international arbitration.
